LYON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a suspect in connection with multiple allegations.
On a recent Tuesday evening, just after 9 p.m., police officers responded to a call reporting gunshots in the 700 block of Neosho Street in Emporia, according to Police Captain Ray Mattas.
Upon arrival, several officers were dispatched to search for the source of the gunfire. It was during this search that they encountered a man, later identified as 33-year-old Juan Cervantes Jr., in the vicinity of the reported gunshots.
Upon seeing the officers, Cervantes attempted to flee but was eventually apprehended in the 700 block of Rural, as reported by Mattas.
During their investigation, officers discovered several shell casings at the scene. Additionally, a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputy, making use of a drone, was able to locate a discarded firearm in the area. As a result of these findings, Cervantes has been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Lyon County Jail.
