Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Delta man charged in fatal shooting in Abbotsford

A Delta man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of an Abbotsford man last September. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Friday that Michael Johal, 32, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The location of the shooting

The incident took place in an underground parkade near Lougheed Mall in Burnaby, where Gagandeep Sandhu, 29, was tragically gunned down. Shortly after the shooting, a vehicle fire was reported in the area of Greenwood Street and Bainbridge Avenue in Burnaby, where officers located a black Honda Pilot engulfed in flames.

Collaboration between law enforcement agencies

Following the incident, IHIT worked closely with the Abbotsford Police Department and the Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit to investigate the case. Through their collaboration, they were able to identify Michael Johal as a suspect in the plot to murder Sandhu.

Arrest and charges

Michael Johal was arrested on Wednesday and subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit murder. However, the investigation into Sandhu’s killing remains ongoing, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Wider implications

Furthermore, Johal was among eight individuals arrested and charged with various drug and weapon offences. The investigation, led by the BC RCMP’s federal policing program, spanned across Vancouver, North Vancouver, Delta, Richmond, and Surrey.

Continued gang conflict

On the same day, the Abbotsford Police Department announced that three men from Abbotsford and Surrey had been charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the ongoing B.C. gang conflict. This underscores the continued presence of gang-related violence in the region.
