Tragic Collision on I-84 in Orange County, UK

A devastating incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Orange County, UK, near exit 39 on the eastbound side of I-84 in the town of Newburgh. The collision, which took place around 10:50 a.m., involved a Nissan Rogue that struck the guide rail and flipped into the center median.

The driver of the vehicle, 77-year-old Charles Drury from Hartford County, Connecticut, tragically lost his life at the scene. His wife, Clare, who was a passenger in the car, was rushed to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh in serious condition.

Remembering Coach Chuck Drury

Charles Drury, affectionately known as Coach Chuck, was a beloved figure in the community. He was a former Pomperaug High School football coach and had also served as an assistant coach at Southington High. With a coaching career that spanned 40 years in Connecticut, Drury touched the lives of many players and colleagues.

Upon hearing the news of Drury’s passing, Southington High School Football took to Facebook to express their condolences. “It is with profound sadness that the Drury family announces the passing of their beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend Coach Chuck,” the post read. “We are keeping the Drury family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
