The Latest Updates on the Billings Shooting Incident

UPDATE 2/20/2024: A recent development in the investigation of the November shooting homicide case in Billings has led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male. The suspect has been remanded into Youth Services on charges of Deliberate Homicide, according to the Billings Police Department (BPD).

BPD released a statement providing details on the fatal shooting incident that occurred on Nov 3, 2023. The incident took place in the 500 block of South 29 Street, where officers responded to a weapons complaint at around 8:06 p.m. Upon arrival, officers witnessed multiple individuals fleeing the scene and discovered a 17-year-old male victim with gunshot wounds.

Immediate medical assistance was provided to the victim by BPD Officers, Billings Fire, and AMR before he was transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigation Details and Arrest

Following the shooting, BPD Officers, Deputies from Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), and Troopers with MT Highway Patrol initiated a search in the area and identified two juvenile suspects believed to be involved in the incident. It was revealed that the altercation leading to the shooting took place among a group of juveniles at the location.

Further investigations linked the individuals to a residence in the 600 block of South 31st, prompting a tactical response the following day. On Nov 4, 2023, a joint operation involving BPD SWAT, YCSO SRT, BPD Negotiators, and BPD Drone Team led to the removal of three juveniles and one adult from the residence.

As the investigation continues, BPD is actively working to identify and locate all parties involved in the shooting. The department expressed gratitude to the supporting agencies, including Billings Fire Department, AMR, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, and Montana Highway Patrol.


UPDATE 11/6/2023: The victim of the shooting on Nov 3, 2023, has been identified as Vydell Otto Yellowrobe, a 17-year-old local male. His cause of death was determined to be homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.
