FEBRUARY 21, 2024 (BLOOMFIELD, NEB.) — The Nebraska State Patrol has identified the two victims who tragically lost their lives in a shooting incident that took place in the peaceful town of Bloomfield. The victims have been named as Curtis Strom, aged 77, and William Reffett, aged 49, both residents of Bloomfield.

On Tuesday morning, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a distressing 911 call was made to Knox County reporting a shooting at Curt’s Lanes and Dining, located at 112 W. Grant Street in Bloomfield. Upon arrival at the scene, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomfield Police Department discovered Strom and Reffett lifeless, each with gunshot wounds. The Nebraska State Patrol was then called in to assist with the investigation.

After conducting preliminary inquiries, two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the murders. Alias Reed, aged 25, has been arrested on charges of first-degree murder and robbery. Reed’s partner, Kaylyne Sweazy, aged 27, has been taken into custody for tampering with evidence. Reed has been confined in Knox County Jail, while Sweazy has been detained in Antelope County Jail.

Initial findings suggest that Reed brought a shotgun to the bowling alley and engaged in a dispute with Reffett, leading to a fatal shooting. Strom, who was not involved in the altercation, was also tragically shot by Reed. Following the incident, Reed fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended as a person of interest. Subsequent investigations led to his arrest.

During the course of the probe, investigators discovered the firearm believed to have been used in the murders. The weapon was found discarded in a ditch several miles west of Bloomfield. It is believed that Reed and Sweazy travelled together to dispose of the weapon. In addition, authorities have recovered stolen cash from the bowling alley.

The Nebraska State Patrol, alongside the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomfield Police Department, continues to collaborate on the ongoing investigation to bring justice to the victims and their families.
