Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Investigators crack decades-old cold case, identify mother who allegedly killed newborn

Authorities have made a major breakthrough in a long-standing cold case, finally identifying the woman responsible for the death of her newborn baby in 2005. The suspect, 51-year-old Annie Anderson, is currently in custody in Washington state, awaiting extradition to face charges in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Police utilized genetic genealogy databases to track down potential family matches based on DNA evidence found at the scene where the newborn was discovered. After identifying a possible relative, investigators obtained a DNA sample which ultimately led them to Anderson.

Tragic Discovery at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

The case dates back to October 10, 2005, when authorities responded to a distressing report of a deceased newborn in a bathroom at Terminal 4 of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The baby, later named Baby Skylar, was found wrapped in newspapers and a white towel inside a plastic bag with distinctive red Marriott lettering.

Despite extensive efforts at the time, police were unable to identify a suspect. The medical examiner’s office determined that Baby Skylar had died from suffocation, ruling the death as a homicide.

Breakthrough in 2020

It wasn’t until 2020 that investigators saw a potential avenue for progress in the case. With advancements in genetic genealogy technology, authorities were able to use DNA evidence to create a family tree for the suspect, ultimately leading them to Annie Anderson.

During questioning, Anderson confessed to being the mother of Baby Skylar and admitted to the heinous crime. She claimed that the incident occurred while she was in Arizona on business, and while the father of the baby has been identified, there is currently no suspicion of his involvement in the murder.

Justice in the Making

As Anderson awaits extradition to Arizona to face formal charges, law enforcement officials are hopeful that this breakthrough will bring long-awaited closure to the case of Baby Skylar. The use of cutting-edge technology and diligent investigative work has finally shed light on a tragic and senseless crime that had remained unsolved for far too long.
