A tragedy struck in northwest Toronto on February 17 when a 39-year-old Ghanaian man, Adu Boakye, fell victim to a senseless act of violence. Boakye, who had recently moved to Canada, was waiting at a bus stop when a lone gunman opened fire, killing him. The incident has left the community in shock as they mourn the loss of an innocent bystander.

Authorities have revealed that Boakye was not the intended target of the shooting, but rather a victim of a random act of violence. Another teenager was also injured in the attack and remains hospitalized. The police have emphasized that both victims had no connection to the perpetrator and were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Toronto Police Department has been working tirelessly to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrator to justice. Detective Phillip Campbell stated that there is no known relationship between Boakye and the shooter, further highlighting the innocence of the victims.

Superintendent Andy Singh of 31 Division expressed his dismay at the tragic turn of events, emphasizing that Boakye and the injured teenager were “completely and utterly innocent.” The community has come together to support the families affected by this senseless act of violence.

On the day of the shooting, police responded to a call for help in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area. Despite efforts to save Boakye’s life, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Homicide and Missing Persons Unit confirmed his identity in a statement released on February 20.

The loss of Adu Boakye has deeply impacted those who knew him, and the community continues to mourn his untimely death. As investigations continue, the Toronto Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in bringing justice to the victims.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Adu Boakye during this difficult time. Let us come together as a community to support one another and stand against senseless violence.
