Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Just over a day after a shooting claimed the lives of three first responders in Burnsville, WCCO has confirmed the name of the man behind the deadly incident.

Shannon Gooden Identified as Shooter

Shannon Gooden, 38, died after opening fire on Burnsville police officers Matthew Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, along with paramedic Adam Finseth. The tragic incident occurred while they were responding to a call for help on Sunday morning. Burnsville Sgt. Adam Medlicott was also injured but has since been discharged from the hospital.

According to police reports, an armed man barricaded himself inside a Burnsville home with seven children. Sources revealed that the mother of some of the children had expressed concerns for their safety, prompting the call to law enforcement.

Background of Shannon Gooden

Gooden’s name was initially identified through scanner reports, linking him to the address where the deadly shootings took place. Property records indicate that Gooden was renting the home where the incident occurred.

Court records further reveal that Gooden had a history of criminal convictions, including disorderly conduct in 2004 and 2005, as well as second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in 2007. In 2020, he petitioned the court for the restoration of his firearm rights, which was denied.

Gooden, who had five children and cared for two others with his girlfriend, was known to have an interest in firearms, as evidenced by social media posts showing him handling weapons. Friends of Gooden expressed disbelief at his involvement in the tragic events.

Community Response

The Burnsville community has been shaken by the loss of the three first responders and the injuries sustained by Sgt. Adam Medlicott. Crowdfunding scams involving the fallen officers and paramedic have also been reported, prompting warnings from local authorities.

As investigations into the incident continue, the community mourns the loss of those who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting others.
