Man Hospitalized After Allegedly Fatally Stabbing Mother and Jumping from Airport Parking Garage

Allegedly, Leyo fatally stabbed his 61-year-old mother, Maureen Mazenko, during a heated argument. The incident took place in the 200 block of East Maple Avenue, leading to tragic consequences.
Distress Call at Pittsburgh International Airport
On February 14, authorities received a distress call at Pittsburgh International Airport just before 8 a.m. The call reported a man jumping from the second floor of a parking garage. The individual turned out to be Joshua Leyo, who could not be initially located despite an extensive search. Leyo later contacted emergency services from a stairwell within the garage, seeking medical assistance after sustaining serious injuries from the fall.
Discovery of Deceased Mother
Later that same day, officers from the Altoona Police Department were called to Leyo and Mazenko’s residence. There, they discovered Maureen Mazenko deceased in the living room, having suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck. Further investigations revealed that Leyo had been residing with his mother before the heartbreaking incident occurred.

It was uncovered that Leyo had used his mother’s bank account to take an Uber to Pittsburgh and make various purchases. Additionally, he sought treatment for a hand laceration at an emergency room a day before the tragic altercation with his mother. Leyo confessed to authorities that a verbal argument with Mazenko had escalated, leading to him fatally stabbing her in the neck. Subsequently, Leyo fled the scene, believing his mother had perished.
Pending Charges
Currently under police custody at Allegheny General Hospital due to his injuries from the parking garage fall, Leyo faces pending charges of first-degree murder. Once medically cleared, he will be extradited back to Blair County for arraignment, according to the Altoona Police Department.
