Exciting Police Chase Across Multiple Counties in Michigan
In a thrilling turn of events, an Indiana man found himself in hot water after leading police on a high-speed chase through multiple counties in Michigan. The chase, which began in the Holland area of Ottawa County, quickly escalated as the driver, identified as 36-year-old Matthew Mensch of Coatesville, Ind., made his way through Allegan and Van Buren counties before entering Berrien County.
Reckless Driving Through Berrien County
As the chase continued south on M-63 through Berrien County, deputies were shocked by the driver’s reckless behavior. Mensch was not only speeding but also driving into oncoming traffic, putting himself and others at great risk. Despite the efforts of law enforcement to stop him, Mensch showed no signs of slowing down.
Dramatic Conclusion in Chikaming Township
The chase took an even more dramatic turn when an officer from Coloma Township managed to deploy stop sticks, flattening one of the car’s tires. However, Mensch was undeterred and continued to flee from police, leading them through St. Joseph, Stevensville, and Bridgman. The wild ride finally came to an end in Chikaming Township after stop sticks successfully flattened two more tires, causing the car to crash.
Arrest and Charges
Following the crash, Mensch was arrested and taken to the hospital for evaluation. On the way there, he allegedly attempted to assault the arresting deputy and caused damage to the deputy’s patrol vehicle. Mensch now faces a slew of charges in both Berrien and Ottawa counties, including operating while intoxicated, fleeing from police, damage to police property, and aggravated stalking.
