Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting in Orlando Apartment Complex
A man was taken into custody on Monday following an armed home invasion that resulted in a fatal shooting at the Jernigan Gardens apartments in Orlando, Florida. According to the Orlando Police Department, Shawn Spencer III, 18, has been charged with murder while engaged in burglary and armed burglary with a firearm.
Police responded to the Jernigan Gardens apartments around 1:14 p.m. on Jan. 30 after receiving reports of a shooting at the complex. Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Kevin Dewayne Hodges in a breezeway, suffering from a gunshot wound. Sadly, Hodges succumbed to his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, detectives uncovered that there had been an armed home invasion at the complex, leading to a resident firing at the suspect. Another victim was found inside an apartment with a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Although details about Spencer’s specific involvement in the shooting have not been disclosed by the police, News 6 has reached out to the Orlando Police Department for further information. As of now, no additional details have been provided.
