KANSAS CITY — A tragic incident unfolded in Kansas City on February 12, 2024, when a Kansas City man was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced the charges against Charlie L Bowman, aged 56.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of 50th and Bellefontaine Avenue, according to court records. Kansas City Police Department officers were dispatched to the location and discovered a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased shortly after the arrival of responders.
Upon arrival, officers immediately contacted Bowman, who had remained at the scene. Video footage revealed that a vehicle had arrived at the scene, followed by another vehicle. The victim was observed exiting the second vehicle and approaching the driver’s door of the first vehicle, a Buick. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim approached the car where the defendant was sitting, and she was shot twice. Despite her attempts to flee, she collapsed on the sidewalk.
Victim Identified as Ruth A. Bowman
In a shocking development, law enforcement authorities have identified the victim as 57-year-old Ruth A. Bowman. The incident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday at the intersection of 50th and Bellefontaine, as confirmed by Police Captain Jake Becchina.
Upon receiving the call, first responders were directed to the scene where they found Ruth Bowman unresponsive on the sidewalk. Immediate medical attention was provided, but unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased by the attending EMS.
Responding officers detained two individuals who were present at the scene for further investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators meticulously processed the area for any potential evidence and conducted interviews with witnesses. At this time, the police have not made any arrests or released additional details regarding the incident.
