A tragic incident unfolded in Kansas City during the early hours of February 12, 2024, as a fatal shooting occurred in the vicinity of 50th and Bellefontaine Avenue. The Jackson County Prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, has announced that charges have been filed against a Kansas City man in connection with this heinous crime.
The suspect, Charlie L Bowman, aged 56, is now facing charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The court records reveal that officers from the Kansas City Police Department swiftly responded to the incident and discovered a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to her injuries shortly after the arrival of emergency responders.
Law enforcement officers were able to apprehend Bowman at the scene of the crime. Video footage obtained from the area showed a vehicle pulling in behind another vehicle. The victim, identified as 57-year-old Ruth A. Bowman, exited the second vehicle and approached the driver’s door of the first vehicle, a Buick. Shockingly, a witness stated that the defendant shot Ruth A. Bowman twice. In an attempt to escape, she collapsed on the sidewalk.

Police Captain Jake Becchina revealed that authorities received a distress call regarding a shooting at the intersection of 50th and Bellefontaine. Responding officers swiftly arrived at the scene and discovered Ruth A. Bowman unresponsive on the sidewalk, north of the intersection. Immediate medical attention was provided, but tragically, she was declared deceased by EMS.
As part of their investigation, law enforcement officers detained two individuals who were present at the scene. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators meticulously combed through the area, collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. At this stage, the police have not made any further arrests or released additional details regarding the incident.
