Winnipeg, MB – In the early hours of February 15, 2024, the peaceful neighbourhood of the 300 block of Magnus Avenue in Winnipeg was disrupted by a harrowing incident that left residents in shock.

Authorities were summoned to a residence on Magnus Avenue following reports of a disturbing armed intrusion that took place around 2:40 a.m. on that fateful day.

Incident Details and Victim Identification

Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement officers were met with a scene of chaos and tragedy. It was discovered that 26-year-old Mitchell Michael HANSLIP, a member of the Lake Manitoba First Nation who had made Winnipeg his home, had tragically lost his life in a violent confrontation.

Suspect Apprehension and Charges

In a swift response to the distressing situation, General Patrol officers, with support from the Flight Operations unit, managed to apprehend three individuals as they attempted to flee the premises.

One of the suspects was found to be in possession of a firearm. The individuals, identified as Isaiah Adrian MOOSE, 23, Sydney Vain MOOSE, 22, and Ashtan Cole PETERS, 28, have been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and are currently in police custody.

Additional Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Further charges, including possession of a weapon, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm or ammunition, and failing to comply with release and probation orders, have been laid against the suspects. The Winnipeg Police Service’s dedicated Homicide Unit is leaving no stone unturned in their thorough investigation into this tragic incident.
