Tragic Accident Claims Life of Pedestrian in Bridlemile Neighborhood
On Saturday, January 27, 2024, a heartbreaking incident occurred in the Bridlemile Neighborhood of Portland, resulting in the loss of a beloved community member. Floyd William Charlan Jr., aged 60, tragically lost his life in a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway at Southwest 56th Avenue.
The Portland Police Department received a report of the crash at 5:32 p.m., prompting Central Precinct officers to respond to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Charlan deceased, while the driver involved in the incident remained at the site.
As the investigation unfolded, Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway was closed in both directions between Southwest 56th Avenue and Southwest Shattuck Road to allow the Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team to conduct a thorough examination of the scene.
The authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward and contact the Traffic Investigations Unit via email at crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov, referencing case number 24-21094.
Unfortunately, this marks the 4th traffic-related fatality in Portland this year, with the incident being the 2nd involving a pedestrian.
