Fayetteville Man Pleads Not Guilty to First-Degree Murder Charge Following Fatal Crash

A 20-year-old Fayetteville man, Noah Cargill, pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge during his arraignment on Friday after a fatal crash in January, according to court documents. The incident took place in Fayetteville, Arkansas, a vibrant city known for its rich history and stunning natural beauty.

Details of the Incident

The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of N Rupple Road and W Wales Drive in Fayetteville. Fayetteville police responded to the scene just before 3 p.m. on Jan. 13, where they found a vehicle driven by Cargill had crashed head-on with another vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of the driver, David Pemberton, 58, of San Leandro, Calif.

Charges Against Cargill

Along with the first-degree murder charge, Cargill faces additional charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, fleeing, reckless driving, driving on a suspended or revoked driver’s license, speeding, operating a vehicle without insurance, careless driving, failure to stop or yield, and running a red light.

ASP Pursuit and Dashcam Footage

According to reports, the Arkansas State Police (ASP) had pursued Cargill’s vehicle before the fatal crash. ASP dashcam footage revealed that a trooper was attempting to pull over Cargill for reckless driving. Despite the trooper’s efforts to initiate a traffic stop, Cargill fled, reaching speeds of over 100 mph and running a red light before the tragic collision.

Police Investigation and Arrest

After the crash, officers discovered a loaded revolver in Cargill’s vehicle. The police spoke with Cargill while he was in the hospital, where he claimed he thought he was being chased by someone “out to get him” and was unaware of the police pursuit. Cargill’s reckless driving exhibited a blatant disregard for human life, as the pursuit passed through a residential neighbourhood and a large apartment complex in Fayetteville.

Legal Proceedings

Cargill remains in custody at the Washington County Jail on a $750,000 bond. His court date is set for April 15, where he will face the charges brought against him in connection with the fatal crash. The community of Fayetteville mourns the loss of David Pemberton and awaits justice in this heartbreaking case.
