Five-Day Manhunt for Kenneth DeHart

Kenneth DeHart, the subject of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Blue Alert, became one of the most-wanted suspects in the state. Law enforcement agencies embarked on a five-day manhunt to bring him to justice. Finally, on February 13, DeHart was apprehended at a residence in Knoxville. He now faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Charges for Aiding Kenneth DeHart

Several individuals have also been charged with aiding Kenneth DeHart. The brother of the suspect, Marcus DeHart, as well as DeHart’s girlfriend, Carrie Matthews, and a man named Maurice Warren, have all been charged with accessory after the fact.

The Released Video Footage

The released video footage includes both body camera and dashcam recordings from the involved deputies. The footage captures various moments before, during, and after the shooting incident.

The video commences with Deputy Eggers’ perspective, showing DeHart’s driving behavior leading up to the traffic stop. At one point, DeHart can be seen crossing into the opposing lane of traffic.

During the stop, Deputy Eggers engages in a conversation with DeHart for several minutes before tensions rise. As she detects the scent of marijuana in the car, she requests DeHart to step out and conduct a search. However, DeHart refuses both requests.

As the situation unfolds, Deputy McCowan arrives at the scene. He joins Deputy Eggers in their efforts to remove DeHart from the vehicle. Despite using a stun device, DeHart resists and ultimately opens fire on both deputies.

The video captures DeHart firing multiple shots, with one fatal shot striking Deputy McCowan. Subsequently, DeHart flees the scene, leaving the injured Deputy Eggers behind.

After being fired upon, Deputy Eggers returns fire and then tends to her own injuries by applying a tourniquet. Bystanders rush to assist both deputies before backup arrives.
