LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man in Las Vegas is facing murder charges after a tragic incident that resulted in a deadly shooting near the downtown area. The suspect, Isaiah Branch, was arrested on June 10 following reports of a shooting at a home near Eastern Avenue and Charleston Boulevard.

The Incident
The victim, Xzavier Maheia, was found in the kitchen of the home with multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting took place in the living room and continued into the kitchen, according to police reports. Maheia had wounds to his chest, arms, stomach area, and back of his leg. Branch left the scene in a black truck before the authorities arrived.

Branch explained that Maheia, his childhood friend, invited him to Las Vegas. They, along with Branch’s girlfriend, went to a liquor store, purchased vodka, and drank it at Maheia’s home.

Branch reported feeling extremely intoxicated after consuming half the bottle of vodka, with Maheia finishing the rest. As the night progressed, Branch became ill and wanted to leave. However, Maheia refused to return Branch’s phone and insisted he stay the night.
The Tragic Turn
An argument ensued when Branch’s girlfriend returned to the home and was confronted by Maheia and his sister. When the girlfriend refused to leave, a physical altercation broke out, leading to Maheia and Branch wrestling on the kitchen floor. Branch claimed that Maheia attempted to grab his gun, prompting Branch to fire multiple shots in self-defense.
