In a collaborative effort to tackle the rising gang-related violent crime in Amarillo, several law enforcement organizations joined forces for a two-day operation. The operation, which took place on May 23 and 24, involved more than 60 officers from the Amarillo Police Department’s Specialized Operations Division, Criminal Investigation Division, the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division, DPS Highway Patrol Unit, as well as ATF, FBI, and HSI.

Intensive Investigation and Traffic Stops
During the operation, the DPS Highway Patrol Unit and APD units carried out a total of 72 traffic stops in neighbourhoods flagged as high-crime areas. These stops resulted in the arrest of over 18 individuals on charges or outstanding warrants. As a result of these warrants, law enforcement officers were able to confiscate five firearms, nearly three pounds of methamphetamine, one pound of cocaine, and $14,100 in drug proceeds.
