Rescue Efforts and Postmortem Procedures

According to reports, there were 12 newborn babies admitted to the hospital at the time of the fire. Sadly, one baby had already passed away before the incident took place. All 12 newborns were successfully rescued with the help of bystanders and shifted to East Delhi Advance NICU Hospital for immediate treatment. The bodies of the seven children who lost their lives in the fire have been transferred to GTB Hospital for postmortem examinations.

Investigation and License Revocation

In a startling revelation, police investigations have uncovered that the hospital’s license, issued by the Delhi Government Health Services (DGHS), had expired on March 31. This raises serious questions about the safety and legality of the hospital’s operations. Furthermore, it was discovered that the doctors at the hospital were not adequately qualified to provide the necessary care for newborn babies in critical condition, as they only held BAMS degrees.

Government Response and Accountability

The tragic incident has prompted strong reactions from government officials, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj. CM Kejriwal expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and vowed to hold those responsible for negligence to account. Health Minister Bharadwaj echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that strict punishment would be meted out to anyone found guilty of negligence or wrongdoing in this case.

In the aftermath of this harrowing incident, questions remain about the safety standards and regulatory oversight of healthcare facilities in the region. The need for stringent enforcement of regulations and the prioritization of patient safety are paramount in preventing such tragedies from occurring in the future. As the community mourns the loss of these young lives, it is imperative that all stakeholders work together to ensure that such incidents are never repeated..
