A devastating road accident in Eechanahalli village near Hassan town has left a Karnataka family reeling from the loss of six of their loved ones. The family, residents of Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural district, was returning from Mangaluru when tragedy struck.

Victims of the Accident
The deceased have been identified as Sunand, 40, Narayanaswamy, 50, Nethra, 25, Ravi Kumar, 30, Chethan, 7, and Gunashekar, 28. Each of them had a unique story and a future full of promise, now tragically cut short by the fatal accident.
The Tragic Incident
The fatal crash occurred around 5.45 am on Sunday, as the family’s Toyota Etios car veered across the median and collided with a truck travelling in the opposite direction. Gunashekar, who was behind the wheel, may have been drowsy, leading to the horrific accident. The impact of the collision was so severe, indicating that the car was travelling at a high speed.
Police Investigation
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Hassan Institute Of Medical Sciences (HIMS) for post-mortem examination. The Hassan traffic police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code, highlighting the negligent and reckless driving that led to the tragic loss of lives.
A Call for Road Safety
Following the tragic incident, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar issued a sobering statement, emphasizing the need for responsible behaviour on the roads. With 51 lives lost in road accidents in Karnataka in the past 24 hours, road safety remains a critical issue that requires collective action from all stakeholders.
