Suspect William Walker, who was inside a blue Honda Accord involved in the shooting, was pursued into Prince George’s County, Maryland, after the gunfire, before crashing and being arrested along with another suspect, 21-year-old Rasheed Thorne. Walker has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and fleeing a law enforcement officer, while Thorne remains in Prince George’s County awaiting extradition.

The officer, identified as a D.C. police captain with 18 years on the force, was driving his personal vehicle, a black SUV, on his way to work at the Fourth District police station in Northwest D.C. when the incident occurred. He noticed a blue car driving erratically behind him, which eventually cut in front of him multiple times. At one point, the other car overtook him, prompting the officer to start recording on his cellphone.

The shooting took place around 12:10 p.m. when the blue car pulled into an alley, and a person jumped out of the passenger side, firing multiple shots at the officer’s SUV. Despite the attack, the officer managed to drive to the nearby Fourth District police station for assistance and provided a partial license plate that aided in locating the suspects’ vehicle.

Police pursued the suspects into Prince George’s County, where they witnessed one of the occupants throwing a gun out of the window before the crash. Both Walker and Thorne were taken into custody, and a tan-colored 9 mm Springfield Hellcat semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the scene.

Authorities identified Walker as the driver of the blue Honda in D.C. court documents, while in Prince George’s County filings, Thorne was listed as the driver.

The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers even when off-duty and serves as a reminder of the risks they take to protect the community. The bravery and quick thinking of the wounded officer in providing crucial information that led to the apprehension of the suspects demonstrate the dedication and professionalism of the D.C. police force.

In conclusion, the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident will hopefully bring justice for the injured officer and ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. The resilience and commitment of the D.C. police officer in the face of adversity are a testament to the strength and courage of those who serve and protect our communities..
