The suspect, Todd Marchetti, 51, was found dead on May 17 after a report of a domestic violence incident where he broke into his ex’s home armed with a machete, according to police Sgt. Rick Hernandez.

The ordeal began around 3 a.m. when Marchetti entered the home with malicious intent towards the mother, identified as Allie. Fortunately, the family was away on vacation at the time. The situation escalated when Marchetti shot the family dog, prompting Allie to come up with a plan to seek help.

Allie cleverly convinced Marchetti to let her take the injured dog to a vet under the guise of seeking medical assistance. However, Marchetti accompanied her and provided false information to the veterinary staff about the dog’s injuries, ultimately leading to the dog being euthanized.

Despite this setback, Allie did not give up. She saw an opportunity when Marchetti damaged a window during the break-in and suggested getting workers to fix it. This allowed her to escape through the damaged window and alert a construction crew nearby, who promptly called the authorities.

When the police arrived, a standoff ensued as officers heard gunshots coming from inside the house. They eventually managed to rescue the baby, Jaxson, who had been shot multiple times during the ordeal. Jaxson was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Marchetti refused to surrender to the police and barricaded himself inside the house. As the situation escalated, the house caught fire, and Marchetti’s remains were later found inside a closet-like room with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Despite the trauma, Jaxson underwent three surgeries and is expected to recover, according to Hernandez. The family has been overwhelmed by the support received, with a GoFundMe page set up to assist them during this challenging time.

The incident highlighted the importance of reporting domestic violence early on to prevent such tragic events from occurring. Allie’s quick thinking and determination ultimately saved her and her baby’s lives.

As the community comes together to support the family, it serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength displayed in the face of adversity. The road to recovery may be long, but with the support of loved ones and the wider community, Allie and Jaxson are on the path to healing..
