The employee attempted to chase after him, leading to a struggle where Stewart dropped the stolen items before jumping into the nearby canal.

Efforts to Apprehend the Suspect

Deputies attempted to coax Stewart out of the water, but he resisted and claimed he wanted to die. Eventually, a BSO dive team was called in to retrieve him from the canal. Stewart was wrapped in a blanket or towel and carried into a police cruiser.
