In a recent court hearing, DC Superior Court Judge Marisa Demeo made the decision to postpone rulings on outstanding motions related to a fatal shooting incident that took place on October 16, 2022. The incident, which resulted in the tragic death of 32-year-old Jamontate Brown, unfolded outside an apartment complex located on the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road, SE.
**Details of the Shooting**
Court documents revealed that Brown suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was found lying on his back with his hands raised above his head. A handgun was discovered on the victim, and the scene was littered with evidence – including 80 spent cartridge casings, four live rounds of ammunition, and 22 fragments.
Detectives also located a vehicle linked to the victim, which showed signs of gunshot damage on the driver’s side. Interestingly, a set of keys belonging to the vehicle was found on Brown, and the vehicle was found nearby with its engine still running.

**Legal Proceedings**
Aaron Murchison, 28, stands accused of second-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm with a prior conviction in connection to Brown’s death. During a recent hearing, Murchison’s defense attorney, Kevann Gardner, filed a motion to suppress identification testimony from evidence.
Gardner argued for the elimination of information obtained from a witness who allegedly identified Murchison in surveillance footage after being shown a photo of him. Surveillance footage presented in court showed multiple individuals, including Murchison, entering and exiting a stairwell in the apartment complex around the time of the shooting.
**Challenges in Court**
During the hearing, Gardner raised concerns about the reliability of the identification made by the witness, suggesting that it was suggestive rather than spontaneous. The prosecution called a detective from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to testify about the investigation but faced challenges in recalling specific details from the time of the incident.
Gardner also highlighted potential biases within the MPD towards the Murchison family, noting that Murchison’s brothers had previously been prosecuted for murder in DC. The defense attorney questioned why only one photograph of Murchison was presented to the witness for identification, rather than a photo array that included all three Murchison brothers.
**Trial Postponed**
In light of the unresolved arguments and outstanding motions, Judge Demeo decided to postpone the trial to June 6. The defense expressed a desire to begin the trial as soon as possible but requested a motions hearing at least a week prior to the trial start date.
