Animal Farm Owner Charged for Owning Endangered Tiger Cub
In a recent incident in Chachoengsao, an animal farm owner has found himself in hot water after a tiger cub was discovered roaming around a community in Bang Pakong district. The owner, identified as Mr Yothin, was charged for allegedly owning an endangered animal without proper authorization.

Investigation Launched by Department of National Parks
Upon receiving reports of the tiger cub sighting, Atthapol Charoenchansa, director-general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, wasted no time in launching an investigation. The DNP’s Yiew Dong task force and 1362 special task force were deployed to look into the matter.
Tiger Cub Discovered in Residential Area
The investigation led to the discovery of a tiger cub in a residential area in tambon Bang Wua. The cub, estimated to be between five and six months old, was eventually captured and taken to Bang Pakong police station. It was later confirmed that the cub belonged to Mr Yothin.
Owner’s Initial Claim and Admission
Initially, Mr Yothin claimed that the cub was a liger (a cross between a lion and a tiger) that had been painted to look like a tiger for a film shoot. However, he later admitted that it was indeed a tiger cub, raising further concerns about the legality of his ownership.
Charges and Potential Penalties
As a result of the investigation, Mr Yothin has been charged with several offences, including letting loose a protected wild animal and possessing both a protected wild animal and a controlled wild animal. If found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 500,000 baht. Additionally, the owner of the farm in Nakhon Pathom, who transferred the lion cub without authorization, is also facing charges.

Tiger Cub Sent to Wildlife Development Centre
Following the incident, the tiger cub has been transferred to the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Development Centre in Suphan Buri for proper care and rehabilitation. The authorities are ensuring that the cub receives the necessary attention and protection in a controlled environment.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of laws and regulations governing the ownership and protection of endangered animals. It highlights the need for strict enforcement and vigilance to prevent illegal wildlife trafficking and exploitation.
