The Fateful Night of the Shooting
The incident took place in the area of Hunt Fountain Park in North Lakeland, where there had been a series of burglaries. The Sheriff’s Office had increased its presence in response to the criminal activity in the area. During the late hours of April 27, a deputy noticed a vehicle in the park past closing hours. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Kmac El Bey, refused to cooperate and get out of the car, prompting a call for backup.
