In a tragic turn of events, 14-year-old Bobby Maher from Wyoming lost his life while trying to protect his girlfriend from two balaclava-clad teens at a shopping mall in Casper. The incident unfolded on a Sunday afternoon at the Eastridge Mall, where Maher bravely confronted the two 15-year-old boys, identified as Jarreth Plunkett and Dominique Harris, for allegedly harassing his middle school sweetheart.

Brave Act Leads to Tragic Loss
Maher had rushed to the mall after receiving a distressing call from his girlfriend, informing him that the suspects were following her and a friend around the shopping complex. Upon his arrival, he immediately tried to lead his girlfriend and her friend to safety while repeatedly asking the alleged perpetrators to leave. However, the situation quickly escalated as the two teens, wearing hooded balaclava-style masks, became aggressive towards Maher.
Surveillance Footage Reveals Horrifying Attack
According to court papers, surveillance footage captured the chilling moments leading up to Maher’s untimely death. The video allegedly shows Maher backing away from the attackers as Plunkett taunted him to fight. Harris then violently lifted Maher off the ground, slamming him down and delivering multiple punches to his face. Tragically, Plunkett then used a kitchen-style knife to fatally stab Maher in the midst of the chaos.
Swift Escape and Arrest
Following the brutal attack, the two suspects quickly fled the scene, discarding the weapon and masks in the mall’s parking lot. Law enforcement authorities were able to apprehend them shortly after the incident. During questioning, the alleged perpetrators confessed to stealing the knife from a Target store inside the mall and claimed that Maher had insulted them prior to the altercation.
Community Shocked by the Tragic Loss
Friends of Maher revealed that the suspects, known only as “JJ and Dom,” attended the same Dean Middle School as the victim. There had been previous encounters between the victim and the suspects, including an incident at a local park. Plunkett is facing charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault and battery, and theft. Harris, on the other hand, is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, aggravated assault and battery, and misdemeanor theft.
