Both men were part of a construction crew working to repair potholes on the bridge, along with the four workers who are still missing.

Preliminary Investigation

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crash site is in ruins, with three bridge spans completely destroyed. The Dali was carrying 56 containers of hazardous materials, weighing 764 tons, bound for Sri Lanka. Fortunately, only two containers fell into the water, neither of which contained hazardous materials.

Long Road to Recovery

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated that rebuilding the bridge will be a lengthy and costly process. The NTSB investigation is expected to take between 12 and 24 months to complete, as authorities work to determine the cause of the collision and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
