Anthony Souvanlasy : December Murder Suspect Arraigned in Kanawha Court

KANAWHA COUNTY MURDER CASE UNFOLDS IN COURT

In a recent court appearance in Kanawha County Circuit Court, Tavian Jones faced charges of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Anthony Souvanlasy in South Charleston last December. Jones also faced an additional charge of using or presenting a firearm during a felony and pleaded not guilty to both charges.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT

According to a criminal complaint filed against Jones, South Charleston police officers discovered Souvanlasy’s body on First Avenue in South Charleston. Souvanlasy was found wearing a black hoodie and tan pants, lying next to a bicycle, with a shell casing nearby indicating he had been shot in the head.

Following the discovery of the crime scene, law enforcement enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshal Service to locate and apprehend Jones, who was ultimately arrested in Tennessee on December 14.

JONES’ COURT APPEARANCE

Tuesday’s court appearance marked Jones’ first in-person hearing since he was extradited from Tennessee to West Virginia on December 29. During this hearing, Jones was arraigned on the murder charges he is facing in connection with Souvanlasy’s death.

UPCOMING TRIAL

Jones’ trial is currently scheduled for August 12, where he will have the opportunity to present his case and defend himself against the allegations of first-degree murder and firearm use during a felony.
