Petersen now faces a total of 21 charges, including multiple felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide and operation, as well as misdemeanors for driving while impaired and failing to provide proof of insurance. Just a short distance away from the first tragedy, another Amish buggy crash occurred in February, involving Brittany Nicole Edgar, a 32-year-old Spring Valley resident. Edgar is facing charges related to a hit-and-run accident that left six individuals injured, including three children.
According to reports, Fillmore County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene after a buggy was struck on Fillmore County Highway 1, resulting in multiple injuries. Two children, in particular, suffered severe harm, with one sustaining a brain bleed and another a skull fracture. The youngest victim, a 3-year-old, suffered a broken arm in the collision.
Authorities were able to track down Edgar after finding parts of a white bumper at the crash site, linking it to her vehicle. Initially claiming to have hit a deer, Edgar later admitted to hitting the buggy, leading to her arrest. She now faces charges of criminal vehicular operation causing bodily harm, leaving the scene of a collision, and providing false information to an officer.
