Protest Erupts in Syedabad Village Over Electrical Tragedy

Residents of Syedabad village in Chitral took to the streets in a fiery protest against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) after a tragic incident resulted in the death of a villager. The protesters, led by elder Syed Khalid Hussain Jan, blocked the Peshawar Road for hours to demand justice for the deceased.

The tension escalated as the body of the man, identified as Aiki Ghot, was placed on the road as a stark reminder of the tragic consequences of negligence. The villagers blamed Pesco for the death, stating that the transmission line passing through their village had turned into a “death trap” due to its inferior quality conductor.

Outrage and Demands for Accountability

The protesters demanded the registration of a criminal case against the Pesco sub-divisional officer, holding them accountable for the incident. They highlighted the dangers posed by the faulty transmission line, which had melted down under high voltage, putting the lives of the villagers at risk.

After hours of unrest, additional assistant commissioner Adnan Haider Maluki intervened and held negotiations with the protesters. Assurances were given regarding the registration of a case against the officials responsible for the tragedy, leading to the peaceful dispersal of the crowd.

Aiki Ghot Laid to Rest

Following the postmortem of Aiki Ghot’s body at the District Headquarters Hospital, the villagers laid him to rest in his final resting place in Syedabad village. The community mourned the loss of one of their own, emphasizing the need for accountability and safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Suno Radio Network Launches Station in Chitral

In a separate development, Suno Radio network unveiled a new station at the Chitral Scouts headquarters, marking a significant milestone for the region. The station will broadcast a diverse range of programmes in Khowar (Chitrali), Urdu, and Pashto languages, catering to the cultural and linguistic diversity of the area.

Commandant Chitral Scouts Colonel Mohammad Bilal Javed, along with MNA Ghazala Anjum, Lower Chitral deputy commissioner Mohammad Imran Khan, and director Suno Radio Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aqeel Yousufzai, inaugurated the station. Mr. Yousufzai expressed his excitement about bringing entertainment and information to the people of Chitral, emphasizing the role of the network in promoting national integration.

The launch of the radio station was met with enthusiasm from the local community, who saw it as a valuable addition to their media landscape. The station’s diverse programming is expected to enrich the cultural tapestry of Chitral and provide a platform for dialogue and expression..
