In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Worcester community was rocked by the brutal homicide of a mother and her 11-year-old daughter on March 5. The suspect, Dejan Belnavis, was apprehended in San Diego, California, last Monday and is now awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts to face charges for the fatal shooting.

The tragic incident unfolded on a fateful Tuesday afternoon when gunshots were reported in the vicinity of Lisbon Street and Englewood Avenue in Worcester. Responding officers discovered Chasity and Zella Nunez inside a parked car, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, both victims tragically succumbed to their injuries.
Suspects Identified
Following swift investigative efforts, Karel Mangual, 28, was arrested the next day in connection with the shooting. Subsequently, Dejan Belnavis was identified as a second suspect in the case. Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr. confirmed that Belnavis will face murder charges upon his return to Massachusetts.
