A shocking incident occurred in south Austin on Tuesday, as a man was brutally attacked with a machete at Auditorium Shores. According to an affidavit filed on Thursday, multiple witnesses reported the assault to Austin Police, leading to the arrest of 24-year-old Ashton Kaine Talley.
The victim, identified as Gregory Gott, sustained more than a dozen lacerations all over his body, with the most severe injuries to his face, scalp, and left hand. “Good Samaritans” at the scene applied pressure to Gott’s wounds before first responders arrived. The court records describe him as “incapacitated and losing a large amount of blood.”

Eyewitnesses provided chilling accounts of the attack. They reported seeing Talley sitting on a bench when Gott walked by, and without provocation, Talley stood up and began assaulting Gott with the machete. Afterward, Talley chased after other individuals in the vicinity, attempting to attack them as well.
When officers arrived, they found a bloodied Talley running across the Pfluger Pedestrian bridge. He was promptly apprehended and found to have blood smeared on his face, jacket, hands, pants, and boots. Remarkably, Talley did not have any injuries on his own body, suggesting that the blood belonged to someone else.
During an interview with police, Talley displayed no emotion and exhibited signs of mental health issues or drug use. One witness reported seeing him wrap the machete in a jacket and throw it into the water below, but the weapon has not yet been recovered.
Talley now faces charges of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of evading arrest. Investigators believe that he caused serious bodily injury and permanent disfigurement to Gott during the attack.

The victim himself recounted the harrowing experience to the police, stating that the suspect swung the machete at him more than 10 times. Gott attempted to flee and defend himself, but the assailant chased him relentlessly until he turned his attention to another man.
As this shocking incident continues to unfold, authorities urge the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
