71-Year-Old Dorothy Adamson Dies in Waterloo Vehicle Collision: Investigation Underway | KCRG 2024

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – A tragic vehicle collision occurred on January 10th, 2023, at the intersection of Broadway Street and Highway 218 in Waterloo, Iowa. Officers from the Waterloo Police Department were dispatched to the scene following a report of the incident.

The collision involved a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica and a 2016 Chevy Traverse. Upon arrival, officers found the driver of the Traverse conscious and speaking, but the female passenger was unconscious. Sadly, the passenger, identified as 71-year-old Dorothy Adamson, did not survive the crash.

According to investigators, the Traverse was traveling southbound on Airport Blvd when it disregarded a red light at the intersection of the Highway 218 offramp/Broadway Street. Meanwhile, the Pacifica was passing through the intersection with a green light when it collided with the Traverse from the side.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to Unity Point Allen Hospital ER for treatment. Responders at the scene reported that the southbound traffic lights on Airport Blvd were covered in snow, making the red lights difficult to see. The driver of the Traverse also mentioned during an interview with the police that the stop lights were covered.

The Waterloo Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and any potential contributing factors.
