Valdosta Police Confirm Teenager’s Death in Hit-and-Run Incident

Valdosta, GA – Valdosta Police Department (VPD) has reported that a tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a teenager over the weekend. The incident occurred on Saturday, and authorities are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle responsible for the incident.

According to the VPD news release, the incident took place on December 9, 2023, at around 6:15 pm. Samuel Johnson Jr., a 16-year-old male, was walking along the 3900 block of Inner Perimeter Road when he noticed a dog that had been struck by a vehicle. In an act of compassion, Johnson attempted to help the injured dog. Tragically, while rendering aid, he was struck and killed by another vehicle that failed to stop.

A concerned citizen passing by discovered Johnson’s body lying in the grass median, along with another injured dog. The citizen immediately contacted emergency services, but sadly, Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Valdosta Police Department’s Traffic Unit, along with detectives and crime scene personnel, promptly responded to the incident. Through evidence collected at the scene, authorities have identified the offender vehicle as a dark-colored Dodge Charger, likely between the years 2011 and 2014. The vehicle is expected to have damage to the driver’s side front bumper. It was last seen in the vicinity of Inner Perimeter Road and North Forrest Street Extension.
