Elderly Man Bloodied in Antisemitic Attack in Beverly Hills: Suspect Arrested

Police in Beverly Hills have arrested a man after he allegedly carried out an antisemitic attack on an elderly man. The incident occurred while the victim was walking with his wife, and he was struck by a belt, causing him to bleed. The suspect, a 44-year-old man, had no prior relationship with the couple and reportedly shouted antisemitic statements during the attack. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain serious injuries and received medical attention at the scene.

Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook condemned the attack, stating that such acts of hate would not be tolerated in the community. The suspect, identified as Jarris Jay Silagi, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, hate crime, and elder abuse.

The incident gained attention after the victim’s son, Alan Tzvika Nissel, a Pepperdine law professor, shared a photo of his bloodied father on social media. He described the attack as a “vignette of antisemitism” and commended his father for bravely chasing down the perpetrator with the help of nearby Beverly Hills Police.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also expressed her outrage over the incident, emphasizing the need to hold the responsible individual fully accountable under the law. She pledged to work with partners in the region to actively combat antisemitism.

Silagi is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail on a bail of $100,000.
