Off-Duty Police Officer Killed in Fatal Crash in Tinley Park
Tinley Park, IL – An off-duty police officer was tragically killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Tinley Park on Saturday, December 9, 2023. The incident took place at approximately 2:30 am local time near 179th Street and LaGrange Road.

According to NBC Chicago, authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims involved in the crash. Along with the off-duty officer, another driver was also injured in the collision. The second driver survived the crash but sustained injuries and was transported to Loyola University Medical Center for further treatment.
Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the crash scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The intersection where the crash occurred was temporarily shut down to facilitate a thorough investigation and clear the collision site.
The Tinley Park Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team is leading the investigation into the crash. Authorities are considering the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision and are working to determine if either or both of the drivers were impaired at the time of the incident, as reported by CBS News.
The identity of the off-duty officer has not been disclosed. However, Chicago police have confirmed that he was a probationary officer. Authorities issued an alert for drivers to avoid the intersection until approximately 8:30 am on the day of the crash, as investigations were still ongoing.
