Final Year Medical Student Found Dead on Railway Track in Nagpur

A final year MBBS student at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)-Nagpur, identified as Pawan Kakade (23), was discovered dead on the railway track near Bothli village in Buti Bori police station limits on Friday. Police suspect that Pawan died by suicide due to exam stress, although no suicide note was found.

According to sources, Pawan left the medical college hostel on Saturday afternoon without informing anyone. His body was first spotted by a railway trackman, and his two-wheeler was found on the road approximately 100 meters from the track. The police believe that Pawan was depressed after his viva examination did not go well the day before. They were alerted about the suicide around 2 pm, and the victim’s cellphone was also damaged in the incident.

Pawan’s identification card helped the police to identify him, and his family and friends were informed about the tragedy. This unfortunate incident marks the sixth suicide of a medical student from Vidarbha this year.

Pawan, a resident of Washim, was known to be withdrawn and under pressure in the days leading up to the incident. His friends and colleagues described him as being worried about the upcoming final-year examinations, particularly the pediatric paper scheduled for Monday.

The news of Pawan’s death has shocked and saddened students and faculty at GMCH. The college administration has expressed condolences to the bereaved family and is fully cooperating with the police investigation. This incident has sparked discussions about the need for improved student mental health support and a better system to cope with academic pressure.
