By | December 9, 2023

An Israeli drone attack in southwest Syria has reportedly killed three members of Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese terror group. The strike, which occurred near the Golan Heights border region, resulted in the death of Hasan Ali Daqdud, who was identified as the son of senior Hezbollah operative Ali Mussa Daqduq.

Daqduq was overseeing the “Golan Network,” a significant Hezbollah terrorist presence along the Syrian border with the Golan Heights. His past involvement includes his participation in a 2007 attack in Karbala, Iraq, which resulted in the deaths of five American soldiers. After being captured by US forces in Syria, he was held in custody and accused of operating with Iranian support. However, he was released in 2012 after being transferred to Iraqi custody.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have not confirmed the strike, and they declined to comment on the incident in Quneitra, also known as Baath City, near the Golan Heights frontier. However, it has been confirmed that a Syrian individual who was accompanying the Hezbollah operatives was also killed in the attack.

Israel has a history of targeting what it perceives as Iran-linked targets in Syria. Tehran’s influence in the country has significantly expanded since its support for President Bashar Assad amidst the civil war that began in 2011.

The Golan Heights border region has been a hotspot for tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Israel has carried out multiple airstrikes in the area in recent years, targeting Hezbollah operatives and Iranian-backed militias. These airstrikes are part of Israel’s efforts to prevent Iran from establishing a permanent military presence in Syria and to deter Hezbollah from launching attacks against Israeli targets.

The latest drone strike is seen as a significant blow to Hezbollah’s operations in the region. It demonstrates Israel’s determination to defend its borders and prevent any threats from its enemies. The situation in the Golan Heights remains volatile, and further escalations cannot be ruled out.
