Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers reported that Detraglia had been taken into custody under the state’s Baker Act and sent to another facility. However, she returned to Phoenix House on November 29th, where employees offered to arrange a ride for her to her desired destination. In a tragic turn of events, Detraglia decided to leave on her own and was fatally struck by a vehicle on the highway shortly after.

According to FHP, Detraglia was either standing or lying in the inside southbound lane of U.S. 301 North when a vehicle ran over her. Several other vehicles subsequently ran over her as well. The area where the accident occurred is known to be poorly lit, contributing to the tragic outcome.

As of Wednesday, FHP has investigated a total of 82 traffic fatalities in the county this year. It’s important to note that this figure does not include data from the cities of Ocala, Belleview, or Dunnellon.

In a separate incident, a man involved in a two-vehicle crash with an Amazon semitractor-trailer on November 14th has died. Kenneth Canary, 38, from Astor, tragically passed away at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital on November 16th. Witnesses reported that Canary had been driving erratically on State Road 40 East for several miles before veering off the road and nearly crashing into the woods. The crash occurred when Canary’s vehicle, a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, crossed into the path of the semitractor-trailer traveling east on SR 40.
