Good Samaritan Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-129 in Dakota County, Nebraska

A fatal accident occurred on Wednesday morning on Interstate 129 in northeast Nebraska, resulting in the death of one person. The incident took place in the eastbound lanes and involved a stolen 2008 Toyota Camry from South Sioux City, Nebraska. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at approximately 5 a.m.

According to authorities, the stolen Camry collided with the center median barricade. Two good Samaritans stopped to assist the driver of the stolen vehicle. Tragically, while they were providing aid, a second vehicle traveling eastbound crashed into the Camry and the two good Samaritans. The second vehicle then struck a third car parked on the shoulder of the interstate.

Sadly, one of the good Samaritans, a 66-year-old resident of South Sioux City, lost their life in the incident. The other good Samaritan and the driver of the second vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the stolen Camry fled the scene, and law enforcement is currently searching for the male suspect. No physical description of the driver has been provided.

Shortly after the eastbound crash, a separate collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-129. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported in that incident. Both crashes resulted in the temporary closure of the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-129 between the Dakota Avenue exit and the Missouri River.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle’s driver to contact the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation into the series of crashes is ongoing.
