27-Year-Old Leah Makiah Ida Phillips Killed in California City Car Accident

CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. — A 27-year-old woman from California City was killed when she was hit by a car after running into traffic on California City Boulevard on Wednesday night.

According to a statement from the Cal City Police Department, Leah Makiah Ida Phillips, 27, was driving eastbound on California City Boulevard when she pulled her vehicle onto the dirt shoulder. She then exited her car and ran into traffic, where she was struck by a 2019 Toyota Avalon driven by a 73-year-old man from Mojave.

Police officers were called to the scene near Deep Well Street at 6:26 p.m. and found Phillips lying on the eastbound dirt shoulder of California City Boulevard. Despite life-saving measures being performed, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

At this time, authorities do not believe that speed or alcohol played a role in the collision.
