16-Year-Old Omari Afelix Terry Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Miami Drive-By Shooting

MIAMI – A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a drive-by shooting in Miami last month left one person hospitalized. The incident occurred outside a grocery store near the 6900 block of Northwest 17th Avenue on October 18.

Police arrived at the scene and found a male victim with a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. According to an arrest report, a male who was with the victim at the time of the shooting told police that as they were leaving the store, a black Maxima followed them. The person inside the vehicle, identified as 16-year-old Omari Afelix Terry, fired multiple rounds in their direction.

The victim managed to escape and hide in the bushes after being struck by a bullet in the thigh. The black Maxima fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting.

Detectives discovered seven bullet casings scattered between the parking lot and Northwest 70th Street. They also spoke with a second victim whose statement corroborated the account given by the male who was shot. Video footage of the shooting was obtained from a nearby business.

Terry was arrested on October 20 after waiving his Miranda rights. He released a statement to the police, although details were redacted in the arrest report. Terry denied the allegations of having a gun and claimed that he had given it to 19-year-old Denzel Robinson, who was in the vehicle with him at the time of the shooting.

Court records show that Terry is facing one count of second-degree attempted murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Metrowest Detention Center in Miami-Dade County.
