Two terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Thursday, according to a statement by a defense spokesman. The encounter took place a day after four Army personnel, including two special forces captains, lost their lives in the same area.
The security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the site of the encounter, indicating the presence of a militant hideout. One of the terrorists killed has been identified as Quari, a top-ranking LeT operative from Pakistan. Quari had undergone training in both Pakistan and Afghanistan and was known for his expertise in handling improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The Pakistani terrorist had been active in the Rajouri-Poonch area for the past year, along with his group. He was believed to be the mastermind behind several attacks in the region, including the Dangri and Kandi incidents. The defense spokesman stated that Quari was sent to the area to revive terrorism and had been successful in recruiting and radicalizing local youth.
The encounter has once again highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by the Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The region has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities in recent months, with militants from across the border attempting to infiltrate and carry out attacks.
The Indian Army, along with other security agencies, has been conducting regular counter-insurgency operations to neutralize terrorists and maintain law and order. The successful elimination of Quari and his accomplice is being seen as a major blow to LeT’s activities in the region.
The defense spokesman commended the swift action taken by the security forces and their commitment to maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He also expressed condolences to the families of the Army personnel who lost their lives in the encounter.
