Kissimmee Man Arrested in Wrong-Way Crash that Seriously Injured Two on SR-589

A man from Kissimmee, Florida, was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol in Hillsborough County on Thursday morning on charges of drunken driving following a wrong-way crash that left two people seriously injured. The incident took place at approximately 1:45 a.m. on northbound State Road 589, just south of State Road 568 (Dale Mabry Extension), according to troopers.

Ramon Rivera, 45, was identified as the driver who was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of SR-589 when his Infiniti Q50 collided nearly head-on with a northbound Acura TL, as stated in a preliminary FHP crash report. The driver and passenger of the Acura, a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman from Trinity, sustained serious injuries in the accident and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Ramon, on the other hand, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for evaluation, as confirmed by FHP. Several hours later, a trooper arrested him after observing physical signs of impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. Ramon declined to speak to the trooper after being read his Miranda rights, as mentioned in the affidavit.

FHP has charged Ramon with driving under the influence (DUI), DUI with property damage or personal injury, and DUI with serious bodily injury.
