Unidentified Black Man Found Dead in Retention Pond in Jacksonville, Police Seek Help in Identification

A man’s body was discovered in a retention pond in the Grand Park area of Jacksonville on Tuesday morning. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is now seeking the community’s help in identifying the deceased individual.

According to Sergeant Rudlaff of the JSO, officers were called to the 3300 block of Nancy Street at around 9:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a body found in the pond. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department subsequently arrived at the scene and successfully retrieved the body using a boat.

Although the victim has been identified as a Black man, law enforcement currently lacks information regarding his age. Sergeant Rudlaff informed First Coast News that JSO is unable to disclose any injuries that may hint at the cause of death.

In an effort to gather more information, the police are urging anyone with knowledge about the unidentified man or any missing person to contact JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. Alternatively, individuals can remain anonymous by reporting tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.

Authorities hope that the community’s assistance will aid in identifying the deceased individual and shed light on the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
