A drug dealer who claimed to be a ‘pharmacist’ has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for his role in the death of a 20-year-old Indian-origin student at Cambridge University in 2021. The victim, Keshava Iyengar, was found dead in a friend’s room at Trinity College over two years ago. The accused, Benjamin Brown, was tracked down and arrested by Cambridgeshire police following Iyengar’s death.
According to Detective Constable Dan Harper from Cambridgeshire Police, Brown was operating a large-scale drug operation from his bedroom in Surrey, which had devastating consequences. Brown, also known as “Lean Xan Man,” was found guilty of selling prescription-only drugs through social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. Although it couldn’t be proven that Brown’s actions directly caused Iyengar’s death, the court took into account the destructive nature of drugs and their impact on lives.

Brown’s home in Surrey was searched by police during his 2021 arrest, leading to the discovery of drugs, cash, and sticky labels with his business logo. He pleaded guilty to two charges related to the supply of banned and controlled substances. The judge presiding over the case described Brown’s illicit enterprise as “substantial, sophisticated, and lucrative,” highlighting how he profited from the vulnerabilities of individuals dependent on prescription medication.
The sentencing took place at the Huntington Law Courts last week. Brown referred to himself as a ‘pharmacist’ during the hearing, but the court established that his activities were far from legitimate. The court’s decision serves as a stern warning to those involved in the illegal drug trade, reminding them that their actions have severe consequences.
