Benjamin Charles Jones Identified as Suspect in Beavercreek Walmart Shooting

A 20-year-old man has been identified as the suspect in the shooting that occurred at Beavercreek’s Walmart on Monday night, injuring four shoppers. Benjamin Charles Jones, a Dayton native, was the gunman who opened fire inside the retail store, according to Beavercreek police. Shortly after 8:35 p.m., 911 dispatch received calls from shoppers reporting that Jones was firing a rifle.

Within three minutes, the first two officers arrived at the scene and found Jones dead near the front of the store. Police confirmed that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Captain Chad Lindsey stated that only one weapon, a High Point 45 caliber carbine long gun, was found at the scene. The police are currently investigating the amount of ammunition Jones had and any other possessions he may have had with him.

In the ongoing investigation, officers are searching Jones’ Dayton residence and his truck, which was left in the Walmart parking lot. Meanwhile, the injured victims have not been identified, but three out of the four are in stable condition and receiving treatment at local hospitals. One woman remains in critical condition, while the fourth victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

FBI agents are collaborating with Beavercreek police to investigate Jones’ background, motivation, and possible connections.
