70-Year-Old Woman Killed and 12 Injured in Road Accident on Amaravati-Anantapur National Highway

Vijayawada: Tragedy struck on Monday night when a 70-year-old woman lost her life and 12 others were injured in a road accident at Komatikunta in Markapuram mandal on the Amaravati-Anantapur national highway. The deceased has been identified as Saradabai Mallaiah Swamy.

The incident occurred when a group of 13 devotees from Solapur, Maharashtra, were returning from a visit to the Srisailam temple. After their darshan at the temple, they began their journey towards Rayachoty. Unfortunately, one of the vehicle’s tires burst near Markapuram, leading to the accident.

According to the police, a complaint has been filed by Guruprasad Sivanand Hiramat, a native of Sholapur town in Maharashtra. He stated that he and his family members were traveling in a hired vehicle driven by Balappa Shambulingu Chencoli, a 30-year-old man from Vijayapur district in Karnataka. The driver was allegedly driving recklessly on NH 544 D near Kommatikunta junction when the accident occurred.

As a result of the tire burst, the vehicle skidded and overturned, causing the passengers to fall off and sustain injuries. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. Sadly, Saradabai succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. The injured victims are currently receiving medical care at the hospital.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Road safety remains a crucial concern, and authorities are working to prevent such tragedies in the future. It is essential for drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.

In related news, recent articles have highlighted other accidents occurring in different parts of India. In Pilibhit district, accidents and fatalities have been increasing, with sugarcane and paddy-loaded tractor-trolleys dominating the highways during the winter season. To address this issue, authorities plan to implement measures such as maintaining road levels, placing radium tape and reflectors on vehicles, and constructing dedicated lanes for sugarcane-loaded vehicles.

Another incident occurred in Thane, Maharashtra, where a fire engulfed 16 vehicles parked in a residential complex. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

In Noida, several pollution under control (PUC) centers have been found to issue fake pollution certificates for vehicles that fail emission tests. This fraudulent practice undermines pollution control efforts and compromises the credibility of measures such as the graded response action plan. The transport department has issued a warning and promised to take action against centers found to be violating the rules.
